"U" is for update

I've been offline for more than a week due to a trip to Sweden and then returning home to find that our lovely (not) Polish internet provider (TP, I mean you, you $%^&ers) had cancelled our internet contract. Basically they wanted us to sign a new contract, and when they weren't able to deliver it, they just up and cancelled our service without a by-your-leave.

Pretty much they told us about the new contract over the phone: "Hi, we want you to re-sign the contract, we'll send over a courier." Said courier tried to come, twice I think. Once I was in Sweden and had a call from someone with very patchy English, claiming to be "at your gate" (maybe this was a work thing or maybe it was the courier from TP, I have no idea) and once I got a call at night (like, after 9pm) while I was in the bathtub, from someone Polish who clearly wanted to be buzzed in but couldn't figure out how to work the keypad at the gate. All you have to do is punch in our apartment number and wait, so if you have our apartment number it's not exactly mind-stretching to figure out. I was not going to haul out of the bathtub and go out in the snow to figure out if the person calling me at 9pm happened to be from the internet provider. He didn't speak much English, but I informed him that he could come back during the day, or use the buzzer like a normal person. He didn't call back.

Anyway, they now expect us to return our modem to one of their mall kiosks (where nobody speaks English and we had to flag down a passing teenager to help us in the first place) and register for an entirely new contract which will come with The Exact Same Type of Modem As Before. And then we get to wait for a week until the internet works again. Why they can't just use all the same info and mail the damn contract (or resend a non-brain damaged courier) is beyond both of us. It's Poland, you know? They do things in a Polish way.

So this is all to say I'm using a dial-up mobile USB sort of thing to connect for now. Its speed seems to vary between .90 and 20.0 kbps, despite the box saying it's good for up to 7MB. That means no pictures for a while.

Onwards to child updates, which is all anyone reading this gives a crap about, I know.

Bump (who is still lacking a proper nom de utero) is growing. I feel him/her on a regular basis as a sort of fluttery pressure (usually on my bladder, of course) and I've both put on a chunk of weight and expanded a few inches. Truth be told, despite feeling like I'm being pretty good on the eating front, I've gained over what I should have at this point. Babycentre suggests 5ish pounds about now and I have gone up 3 or almost 4 kilos depending on time of day, which is well, yeah, over 5lbs. I'm not sure how I feel about it. On the one hand I don't want to start stressing about weight gain because I do have a history of going a bit off my rocker when I think too much about that stuff, but otoh I'd rather deal with it now if there is going to be an issue. I'll wait out another month and see if it's just been a kiddie growth spurt or if it's something I'm doing. In any case, I'm firmly into maternity wear now.

Alexander continues being Alexander. He picked up a lot more Swedish last week so chats away in his little gibberish-English-Swedish language mix. He's been switched into a "big boy bed" (his crib, but with one side removed, and replaced by a "don't roll out" sort of barrier/edge thingie) and so far actually stays in it. I had to rescue him the very first night, when he'd wandered out at o'dark thirty and was sobbing and hysterical in a chair across the room, and the other night he got up and retrieved a book to read a bit after we left, but otherwise he's staying put. In fact he mostly just sits up and shrieks for us in the mornings as well, rather than getting up to play or something.

The potty training is progressing well. He's fully out of diapers for nap and hasn't had many accidents. I think one while we were in Sweden and that's been in for the past two weeks. He's doing well at night too. We think he has figured out the idea of not peeing in bed and now tries to hold it for morning as well, even though he still wears a pull-up at night. He's dry in the morning about three times a week. So that's going even better than I'd expected, and we're well on the way towards my goal of having him fully out of diapers before the next one arrives.

This is not to say he's perfect, mind you. He can get distracted by play and in those cases will wait too long to say he needs to go. We've had two incidents recently, one at a birthday party (gah, involving Poop, which has never happened before--in all the time he's been out of diapers, he's never shat his pants till now) and one at home involving a Brand! New! Toy! that he couldn't tear himself away from. But still. He's not even two and a half, so I can't be too perturbed by the occasional accident.

Really though there isn't that much to say. Everyone is doing well and in that respect, boring is rather a good thing.
