"V" is for variety

We're working on the whole "eating a variety of foods" thing. The idea being that if he is willing to eat a variety of things now, before he hits the whole toddler "I assert my individuality by saying no to everything" stage, we will have some hope of getting him back to a decent diet later on.

So far he's been (knock on wood) rather amenable, actually. I often have to hold his head still and stuff something new into his mouth, but once he gets a taste, he likes most thing and will then take over and stuff whatever it is into his own mouth. Below we have kiwi.

I nearly ruined that by tricking him into some sliced up green grapes though. I assumed, correctly, that he wouldn't see the difference. But I also assumed, incorrectly, that he'd like the grapes. So it took a few more tries before I could get him to eat the kiwi again.

He shocked us a bit the other night by happily stuffing his face with Indian food. We often give him little shards of popadum and sometimes we dip them in the mint sauce for him, but Saturday night he was on fire. Not only was he dipping his own popadum, but when I loaded up a plate for him, he ate chicken tikka masala and dal makhani by the fist-full.
We have a great little video of him eating his popadum and trying to dip it himself, but I'm not sure how well I'll get it to load. If you don't see it here, head on over to flickr and check it out.
