The above is a photo taken of Goran and Alexander when we went back to Tallinn for a long weekend. When we left Gdynia there was nearly a foot of snow on the ground, but it was melting fast and we came home to weather more suited to trench coats than down coats.
It was a nice little trip. First 1.5 days in Stockholm and then to Tallinn for 2 days. We went to Hell Hunt for the old Friday Beers and had brunch on Sunday, and generally questioned if our decision to move to Poland was a good one. The jury is still out. I like the house and come summer it will be one of the better locations I can think of, but I'm pretty bored and Goran still works a lot.
There is a playground nearby, and we go there maybe 3 times a week. I've almost given up smiling at the other parents and trying to make conversation because if they speak English at all, they clearly don't understand the point of speaking to me. After all, they don't know me, right? :)
So we amuse ourselves other ways. Yesterday, Alexander and I attempted some gardening. Goran spied two packs of Lily of the Valley in the garden centre at the local Tesco so Offspring and I got them into the ground. I dug a little trench and encouraged him to try it as well. He had No Clue what I was on about.
See that thing in the bottom left? That is my hand, encouraging him to go play in the dirt. I thought digging in the dirt came naturally, but I guess not.
He was willing to reach down and sort of flick at the rhizomes that I planted, but he could not be induced to place one in a hole himself. I guess it's better he be uninterested than intent on excavating the things.
Here he is, posing by one of the three places we planted. I'm unsure as to the suitability of our garden for these flowers. I think of them as requiring more shade than we have, so I put them in more than one location. Hopefully one will work at least. I also hope the bushes in the above photo will leaf out nicely and provide some shade as well.
The garden gets strong morning light, which fades by mid to late afternoon. Better for breakfast or brunch outside than cocktails or dinner, unfortunately, but it will be warm enough in a few months that it won't matter.
