"C" is for crib

I read all this stuff about how babies should have nothing in their cribs with them. Plain white sheets, so as not to distract, no blankets or toys or pillows to suffocate them, not even crib bumpers.

Then I saw a mobile at Target that I liked, so I bought it.

Then the midwives told me to place him on his side to sleep, so if he spit up he wouldn't drown in it (charming thought, really. Thanks for that, ladies.), and I realized that the long stuffed dragon my parents sent at Christmas would make an excellent sleep positioner. Around the same time I started to wonder if he was waking up all the time because he was cold, so I gave in and allowed him a blanket.

And then my ridiculous child began to scoot himself* head first into the bars of the crib. Brain damage or bumpers...hmm.

(* Yes, he is sleeping on his tummy in these photos. Yes, he always sleeps that way and it is the ONLY way he sleeps for more than one hour at a time. I have a breathing monitor for the crib and an okay from his baby vet, so random Internet strangers, please don't leave comments that I'm endangering my child.)

We now have a fully-furnished crib with a mobile, blankets and bumpers (improvised from Valentine, his stuffed hippo, a knit blanket and some baby pillows that I've sewn ribbons to the back of). Oh well! Best laid plans and all that.

He seems happy enough!
