We went swimming on Saturday!
Okay, I walked around on my knees in the kiddie pool, holding Alexander horizontal, with his chin just out of the water, and he frantically flapped and waved his arms and legs. We'll call it swimming, for now.
You'll have to trust me that this event actually took place, because I don't have any photos. If I'd known better how things work I'd have brought my diaper bag poolside. Then the friends who invited me could have taken a picture or two. But I left my bag in the locker room, and Goran didn't come along, and I didn't want to risk having the camera just sitting around on some wet surface. Next time though.
There will be a next time, because he actually enjoyed it a bit. I expected that we'd get in, he'd scream (much like bath time) and then we'd run away in shame. But he seemed cool with it. I suspect the noise and commotion had something to do with it, because he generally is pretty calm when there is a lot going on and stuff to look at. He's a pretty nice baby, actually, so long as he's got stuff to stare at. It's only when we're home alone and he has to deal with plain old me, that he gets fussy.
So, he stared at the other kids and the little water slides and fountains in the kiddie pool, and I pulled him around in various positions suggested by a friend who took her son to baby swimming lessons, and then we all went out for lunch. Goran joined for that part, having enjoyed a rare hour alone in the house, with loud music, coffee and sudoku (something I still do not get the allure of).
