I keep seeing little boys dragging around Thomas the Tank Engine toys and wearing the shoes and carrying the backpacks. I don't really get the allure, but I have noticed that my kid makes a beeline for the Thomas train whenever we're in a place that has one.
Then, the other day when we were buying his little walker thing, I put him on the floor while I discussed the merits of various walkers with the salesclerk. When I turned around, he was wreaking havoc in the Thomas display. He got all pissed off when I took him away, so we went off to the smaller (cheaper) Thomas trains to see if they were also cool. They were. So I bought him one.
He ate it rather obsessively for two days and now has settled down to just be fond of it. Note the Tongue of Obsessive Concentration being displayed in most of these pictures! He cracks me up.
