Happy first Fourth of July, my little turtle*!
There were no fireworks, but there was red, white and blue clothing and there was a morning spent at the beach, so it wasn't all bad.

We had one real first; Alexander made a discovery that all children have to make at some point or another. He has discovered the taste of sand.

He doesn't like it much more than he likes potato.
Mostly we just sat and watched the water while he touched the sand and chewed on Jill's leash.
He made a few half-hearted attempts at crawling, which sort of involved him doing a modified pushup across my legs and then face planting into the sand or onto my knee.
Then he shat his pants and we had to go home. Ah childhood.*The Swedish for turtle, directly translated into English, is shield toad. How cool is that? It's my new favourite word.
