Alexander has been pretty open to trying new foods. Thus far, in addition to the purees of potato, sweet potato and parsnip which he turned his little nose up at, he has had banana, blueberry, strawberry (pictured above), rice, kidney beans, peas, hummus, broccoli, avocado, barley, cucumber, carrot, chicken, nectarine and today, duck. The favourites so far have been, I think, hummus, chicken and blueberries, though after today I might put duck at the top of that list. I had a pasta with little cubes of duck for my lunch today and Alexander was fussing, so I decided to give him some. I sucked the sauce off and gave him a tiny taste. He nearly bit my finger off in his haste to get more in his mouth. I honestly think that he ate every single piece I fed him, which is more than I can say for anything else he's had to eat. Well, he did like the chicken a lot too. Poultry is The Thing I guess. Here he is eating some tarragon and lemon chicken salad. He really seemed to enjoy it.

For sure more than I can say about the barley, which he just spits back out.
I can't tell if he spits it out because of the texture or the taste.Sometimes he gets his food in sticks that he can grab and gnaw on, like steamed carrot sticks, and sometimes I cut it into cubes so he can practice his pincher grip. Which he sucks at so far, but practice makes perfect, right?

After gorging himself on duck at lunch, he accepted a spoonful of jarred baby food that a friend was feeding her son and went diving back for more of that too. It was pork and veggies, but it wasn't a smooth puree, which seems to be the key with him. So, this evening finds me slaving over the stove trying to cook up something he will like. The first effort is ground chicken, peas, carrots, garlic, tomato and a bit of Italian herbs. I'll let you know how it goes.
