They say breastfed babies don't need water in addition to their milk, and indeed if they drink too much they can get full and not drink the milk that they really need. But, he ingests enough food now that I think a bit of water is not a bad idea, particularly around meal times. So, enter the sippy cup. On the off chance that he reacted to it like a bottle (screaming and pushing it away), I had his babysitter make the introductions.
He seems perfectly happy to chew on it, but hasn't figured out what to do about all the wet stuff inside.I didn't think I'd go this route initially. I still want to avoid him using a bottle (not like he seems to want one anyway, but I wouldn't encourage him to at this point), but I'm giving in to the sippy cup, assuming he figures out how to do more than hold it and chew on it like he did today. The reason I'm not trying to use a cup directly, which so many websites swear is possible, is his do-it-myself temperament. No way this child is going to let me hold the glass or cup for him, and no way is he coordinated to do it alone.
