"V" is for vaccinations

We visited Alexander's baby vet today for his three month check-up and vaccinations. He got five vaccinations, bundled into one shot that he barely felt. He looked startled, but didn't even squeak, so hurray for the experienced nurse! The schedule is slightly different from in the US, from what I understand.

At this three month visit, he had diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), flu and polio. Last visit he had the second of his hep B shots (the first was in the hospital the day after he was born), and of course he had his TB vaccination before we left the hospital.

I'm to administer baby Tylenol if he runs a fever or seems grouchy, but he seems fine so far. On the way back from the doctor, we stopped at a cafe on the town hall square for a coffee with a few friends.

Lena's Julia, Emma's Emilia and my Alexander: The wagon brigade, aka, Sprogs of the Mommy Mafia!

The other babies were sleeping on their backs in their age-appropriate bassinets, and Alexander sat semi-upright in his slightly too advanced wagon, and watched me drink coffee for a bit. He came out for a drink of his own and then settled back in for a nap.

Note the opened pack of diapers in the wagon basket...

OH, no, wait. Lovely critter made a diaper first and I was sort of stuck for a place to change him. The cafe was not wagon accessible and the bathroom was Gross. I'd have to put him on the floor and that was just not an option. So, I wheeled the wagon around a corner, away from food and drink, and changed him in the wagon. Other than a cold wind up his butt, he seems no worse for the wear. I guess I'm That Mom, the tacky, public diaper changer, but whatever. Better anything than that bathroom floor!

Anyway, he nodded off nicely and stayed asleep for a 30 min walk around town before I took him home. He went to bed right on time and didn't seem particularly upset or unhappy. Let's hope he doesn't turn feverish or grouchy in the night.

Lest I forget, here are the official, vet-approved stats:
weight=6.420kilo/14lbs 8oz
height=64cm/25.2in

He is now slightly above average in height and weight, whereas he's been just below the curve before. We credit the fact that it was only this past month that breast feeding finally became comfortable and painless for me. I suppose I just offer slightly more often, and don't shorten the sessions by being tense and irritable with him. This is a good thing, as breast fed babies are supposed to be slightly larger than bottle fed ones. She suggests, based on his gain patterns, that we attempt to go for 6 months of exclusive breastfeeding; that is, no solids till then. At this point, it's so easy to feed him that I'm game if he is. We'll see how it goes.
